Pilgrimages in Moray - Artist in Residence
The Pilgrimages in Moray creative residency was based on the stories of walks around the Moray area in a book of the same name published in 1924. Facilitated by the Moray Way Association in partnership with Dance North, it was funded as part of the Arts in Moray Collective.
As one of five artists-in -residence, my residency was based in the Orton Estate near Fochabers. In partnership with a Moray Way board member, we recreated a walk to the well of St Mary’s which was said to have magical, healing, properties if drunk from on Midsummer. For my creative output I designed, hand carved and pressed a lino print in the style of 1920s illustrators retelling the story of the Midsummer pilgrimages. We will also lead a story-walk and themed printmaking workshop as part of the Moray walking and Outdoor Festival on Midsummer in June
